How we move through interior spaces has been altered significantly. Collaboration and consultation have created new challenges and opportunities to work differently with our clients. Interior designers have a chance to have a larger voice at the front end of the project as the pandemic has forced clients to re-evaluate their spaces. How can we help our clients understand how spaces can be transformed, used and modified as owners, managers and builders are forced to rethink space?

Date: Thursday, December 3
Time: 10:00 am – 11:30 am EST

The pandemic has brought an unprecedented amount of change to our daily lives. The continual state of change has forced property managers and owners to constantly be ready to shift and pivot strategic direction and plans. Where are we today? What is the state of the property management industry? How are some companies managing through this pandemic? What are occupancy rates now and what are they projected to be into 2021.

BUILDEX Cross-Industry Keynote

Understanding Biophilic Design and its
Application in Commercial Design

Session in Focus (Free-to-Attend)

The Role of Leaders, Managers and Peers in Tackling Racism and Oppression

BUILDEX Construction Keynote

How Can Procurement Change and Modernize to Better Serve the Building Industry?

Date: Monday, November 30
Time: 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EST

Biophilic Design has taken the design community
by storm in recent years, but this research-focused design philosophy is neither new in concept nor a novelty. Nature as inspiration for design is evident in some of our most beloved architecture. As stress and other aspects of wellbeing come to the forefront of public awareness, biophilic design is being recognized as a viable approach for supporting physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health in the built environment. Join us for an overview of the science and design philosophy behind biophilic design and its evolution as a practice of ‘good design’.

Date: Monday, November 30
Time: 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EST

Recent events around the Black Lives Matter movement and global protests have foregrounded the need for more powerful dialogue around racism and oppression in our societies, government institutions and workplaces. The panel will reflect the current context, industry-specific challenges, necessary calls to action, and how our industry leaders, managers and colleagues all have a role to play in tackling racism and oppression.

Date: Tuesday, December 1
Time: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EST

This panel has been assembled to discuss the opportunities and practicalities presented by change to procurement approaches. What are some of the strategies to diversify and modernize procurement? Why change; what are the benefits of diversification in procurement strategies beyond the immediate needs of a project, and how can a shift in practices provide sustainable, socio-economic and fiscal benefits across the value chain? Lastly, the panel will identify who are the change agents in procurement and how can industry peers learn and change too?

New Opportunities in Post-Pandemic Spaces: Exploring Social Equity, Health and Well-Being

IDA Interior Design Morning

Date: Tuesday, December 1
Time: 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm EST

Perhaps like no other innovation in recent building technologies, mass timber and its increasing use as a structural solution in taller and larger buildings has elicited strong and varied reactions. In this context of contrast the Keynote session will focus on two mass timber projects: the Arbour for George Brown College, and the new Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation Headquarters & Multi-Tenant Commercial Building in Toronto.

Date: Thursday, December 3
Time: 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EST

Public health and equitable architectural design are intimately related. Join Seb Choe and Joel Sanders, founding members of MIXdesign, a New York-based inclusive design think tank and consultancy, as they explore this relationship. The session will discuss how their practice is considering the spatial implications of COVID-19 as a natural extension of their mission to make public spaces safe and accessible for all people regardless of age, race, gender, religion, and ability.

Date: Thursday, December 3
Time: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm EST
